As of 1 April 2019, the CFPCM certification program in India is now directly administered by U.S.-based Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB Ltd.), owner of the international CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification program outside the United States. FPSB Ltd. partners with its global network of Affiliate organizations to administer CFPCM certification programs in 26 countries and territories around the world, representing a global CFP professional community of nearly 190,000 at the end of 2019 (with over 1,900 CFP professionals in India).
FPSB Ltd. has introduced a new education and credentialing pathway to CFPCM certification to facilitate more structured learning and recognition opportunities for candidates for CFP certification in India. Candidates for CFP certification can complete their education requirement through three specialist education courses (investment planning; retirement and tax planning; and risk and estate planning) and a financial planning capstone course.
Students enrolling on or after 1 June 2020 may only choose to enroll in the new program. The updated program will consist of three specialist certifications and one capstone course for CFP certification.
Students registered for the CFP certification program under Regular or Challenge Pathways prior to 1 June 2020 must fulfill the education program requirements to be eligible to appear for the CFP examination. Students registered in the legacy program will be able to continue to study and sit for exams 1-5 through 31 March 2021.
FPSB Ltd. will launch its retirement and tax planning specialist; risk and estate planning specialist; and financial planning capstone education courses on its online learning portal. By completing pathway certification requirements, successful candidates can be recognized as an FPSB® Investment Planning Specialist, FPSB® Retirement and Tax Planning Specialist and/or an FPSB® Risk and Estate Planning Specialist. Upon completing all four education courses and related exams, and meeting FPSB Ltd.’s CFP exam and experience requirements, individuals can be recognized as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERCM professional in India.
By completing the steps above, and applying for FPSB Ltd. certification, successful candidates can be recognized by employers, clients and the public as an FPSB® Investment Planning Specialist, FPSB® Retirement and Tax Planning Specialist or FPSB® Risk and Estate Planning Specialist.
